Therapeutic & Cosmetic Botox Treatments in Richmond, BC

Therapeutic and cosmetic Botox in Richmond, BC, administered by a dentist trained in facial anatomy, for jaw clenching, TMJ tension, and fine lines.

Dr. Sara Ghadiri

Botox for jaw clenching, TMJ tension, and cosmetic fine lines, delivered in a Richmond dental clinic by a provider who works with facial muscles every day.

Overview

Dentists spend their careers working with the muscles, nerves, and proportions of the lower face, which makes a dental clinic a sensible setting for Botox. At our Terra Nova clinic in Richmond, Dr. Sara Ghadiri offers Botox for therapeutic purposes (jaw clenching, teeth grinding and TMJ-related muscle tension) as well as cosmetic smoothing of fine lines around the upper face.

What Botox Is Used For Here

  • Jaw clenching and teeth grinding (bruxism): relaxing an overactive masseter muscle to reduce daytime and night-time clenching force.
  • TMJ-related muscle tension: easing soreness and tightness in the muscles that move the jaw.
  • Tension headaches linked to clenching: where jaw muscle overuse is a contributing factor.
  • Masseter slimming: a softer lower-face contour, often a side benefit of treating clenching.
  • Cosmetic fine lines: forehead, frown, and crow's-feet lines, treated conservatively for a natural result.

Botox is a prescription medication, so treatment always begins with a consultation and a review of your medical history. It is not suitable for everyone, and we will tell you if we do not think it is the right option for you.

How a Botox Appointment Works

Your first visit is a consultation rather than a treatment. We go through what is bothering you, examine your jaw muscles and bite, review your medical history and medications, and agree on which muscles to treat and how conservatively to start. If you are being treated for clenching, we will also check whether a nightguard, a bite adjustment, or restorative work should be part of the picture. Botox is one tool, not the whole answer.

Treatment itself takes only a few minutes. It involves several small injections using a fine needle, and most patients describe it as a brief pinch. There is no sedation and no recovery period, so you can go straight back to work afterward.

Timing and Results

Effects usually begin within three to seven days and settle by around two weeks. Results typically last three to four months, after which the muscle gradually returns to its previous activity level. Because we start conservatively, a short review appointment is sometimes used to top up rather than overshooting at the first visit.

An Honest Note on the Evidence

Cosmetic use of Botox for facial lines is well established and approved. Using it for bruxism and TMJ muscle pain is common in dentistry but is considered an off-label use, and the research base, while encouraging, is still developing. Many patients get meaningful relief; it is not guaranteed, and it does not repair a damaged joint or worn teeth. We would rather set that expectation clearly before you spend money than afterward.

What to Avoid Afterward

Stay upright for about four hours, skip strenuous exercise, saunas, and facials for the rest of the day, and avoid rubbing the treated area. Mild redness or small bumps at the injection sites settle within a few hours.

Cost and Coverage

Botox is priced by the number of units used, which depends on the muscles being treated and your own muscle bulk. Masseter treatment for clenching generally needs more units than cosmetic lines. You will get an exact quote at your consultation before anything is booked. Cosmetic treatment is not covered by dental insurance or CDCP. Therapeutic treatment is occasionally eligible under extended health plans, so it is worth asking your provider, and we can tell you how the treatment would be documented.

Book a Botox Consultation in Richmond, BC

We are at 6011 No. 1 Road, Unit 120, in Richmond's Terra Nova neighbourhood, with free on-site parking and Saturday appointments. Our team speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Farsi. Call (604) 238-6666 to arrange a consultation. If you are mainly here because of jaw pain or grinding, it may also be worth reading about our restorative dentistry options, since worn or cracked teeth often need attention alongside the muscle itself.

Common Questions

Why would I get Botox at a dental clinic instead of a med spa?

Because the muscles involved in clenching, chewing, and facial expression are the ones dentists work around daily, and because a dentist can look at your bite, your teeth, and your joint at the same visit rather than treating the muscle in isolation.

Does Botox for jaw clenching stop me chewing normally?

No. The aim is to reduce excessive clenching force, not to disable the muscle. Dosing is conservative for exactly this reason, and normal chewing is preserved.

How long does Botox last?

Usually three to four months. Some patients who are treated regularly find the interval lengthens over time.

Will my face look frozen?

Not with conservative dosing. We start low and review, which is a slower route to your result but a much safer one aesthetically.

Can I have Botox if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Botox is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and we will ask about this at your consultation.
