Checkups and cleanings that catch small problems early: thorough exams, digital x-rays when needed, and a polish that brushing at home cannot match. Book ahead or walk in.
A routine exam and cleaning is the simplest way to keep your teeth and gums healthy, and the most reliable way to catch decay, gum disease, and other issues while they are still easy to treat. At DTC Dental Treatment Center in Richmond's Terra Nova neighbourhood, Dr. Sara Ghadiri and Dr. Michael Ho provide thorough dental exams and professional cleanings for adults, teens, and children, including walk-in visits when you cannot book ahead.
Their painless, thorough cleaning exceeded all my expectations.
We start with a thorough look at your teeth, gums, and bite. Digital x-rays are taken when they will inform a decision, not on a fixed schedule, using low-radiation equipment in radiation-shielded treatment rooms. After the exam, your hygienist scales away hardened tartar, polishes the tooth surfaces, and applies fluoride when it will help. You leave with a clear picture of where things stand and a few practical recommendations you can use between visits.
Walk-in Patients Are Welcome
You do not always have to plan the visit in advance. If you need an exam or cleaning and cannot wait for a booked slot, walk in and we will see you as soon as a chair is free. Licensed BC dentists and hygienists provide the care, whether you booked last week or arrived this morning.
If Cleanings Have Hurt Before
Sensitive teeth and tender gums make scaling uncomfortable, and a lot of people quietly stop coming because of it. There are real options: numbing gel, freezing, working in sections across two visits, or desensitizing treatment beforehand. Tell us, and we will use them.
Prevention Is Cheaper Than Repair
Almost everything that ends up needing a crown, a root canal, or gum surgery started as something small and painless. Tartar sitting along the gumline drives inflammation; untreated gingivitis progresses into periodontitis, which affects the bone holding your teeth in place. Gingivitis is reversible. Bone loss is not. That is the argument for turning up regularly, and it is why an exam and cleaning is worth far more than it costs.

Our fees follow the standard BC Dental Association (BCDA) fee guide with no markup. We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and most major insurance plans, bill providers directly, and can give you an upfront estimate before anything begins. Exams and cleanings are among the most widely covered treatments there are. If you have coverage, this is the appointment to use it on.

Do I need an appointment for a dental exam or cleaning?
No. Booked visits are easier to plan around, but walk-in patients are accepted and seen as soon as a chair is free.
How often should I have a dental examination and cleaning?
Every six months for most people; every three to four months if you have a history of gum disease or heavy tartar buildup. We will recommend an interval based on your actual gum health.
Does a professional cleaning hurt?
It should not. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, say so. Numbing gel, freezing, or splitting the appointment in two all help.
Do I need x-rays at every exam?
No. We take them when they will actually inform a decision, not on a fixed schedule.
I have not been to a dentist in years. Is that a problem?
Not for us. There is no lecture. We start with an exam, tell you where things stand, and prioritize what actually needs attention first.
