Wisdom tooth pain, swelling or crowding? At DTC Dental Treatment Center in Terra Nova, Richmond, most wisdom teeth are assessed and removed right here in the clinic, with careful freezing, oral sedation if you want it, and a written estimate before you book. Complex cases are referred to a specialist, and we tell you plainly when that's the better route.

Signs your wisdom teeth may need to come out

  • Aching or pressure at the back of the jaw.
  • Swollen, tender or bleeding gum behind your last molar, sometimes with a bad taste.
  • Food trapping or infection around a partly erupted tooth.
  • Crowding or pressure on the molar in front.
  • Jaw stiffness or trouble opening fully on one side.

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. If yours are healthy, fully erupted and easy to clean, monitoring them is often the better choice, and we'll tell you so.

What happens at your visit

  1. Exam and low-radiation digital x-ray to see the roots and how close each tooth sits to the nerve and sinus.
  2. Written estimate before you book the extraction, based on how many teeth and whether any are impacted.
  3. Extraction under local anaesthetic. A single tooth usually takes 20 to 40 minutes; all four can often be removed in one appointment.
  4. Written aftercare. Expect swelling and tenderness for two to three days; many patients are back at work or school the next day. Call (604) 238-6666 if anything doesn't feel right.

Nervous? Oral sedation is available

Tell us before we begin; we explain each step and work at your pace. Oral sedation helps you feel relaxed and sleepy, and many patients remember little of the appointment. If you choose it, a responsible adult must bring you in and take you home, you can't drive, and you shouldn't walk home alone.

Cost, insurance and CDCP

Fees follow the BC Dental Association fee guide with no markup, and you get an exact written estimate after your x-ray, before you commit. We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and most major insurance plans, and we bill your provider directly.
